About
Barbara Skora is a German-Polish mezzo-soprano known for her “sense of style” and “great vocal imagination.”
Born in Ratibor in Silesia, Poland, Skora had shown promise early on by winning several awards at international competitions, before commencing her studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University in Warsaw under the guidance of Dr. Magdalena Idzik.
She moved to Germany soon after and began her studies with Prof. Dr. Marek Rzepka at the Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media, where she has received the Bachelor and Master of Music degree in 2025 and is currently enrolled as a Soloklasse student.
While being in Hannover, Skora has made her made her debut as Dorabella in Mozart’s „Così fan tutte“, as the Forester’s Wife in Janáček’s „Cunning Little Vixen“, and as Pierrot in a theater production based on Schönberg’s „Pierrot Lunaire“. Further engagements include the role of Angel in a production of Stefan Litwin’s „How the Suffering is Driven Out of Mr. Mockinpott“ at the Braunschweig State Theater. In June 2024, she made her debut at the Mozart Festival in Wurzburg as a Mozart Labor scholarship holder. In recent months, she has taken on the role of Sister Mathilde in the opera “Dialogues des Carmélites” at the Staatstheater Braunschweig and portrayed the Witch in Humperdinck’s “Königskinder” at HMTM Hannover.
In 2025, she will debut at the Staatstheater unter den Linden in Berlin as Flora in
Verdi’s La Traviata and at the Staatstheater Hannover as the Third Orphan in
Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier.
Skora also proves herself to be a multifaceted artist with continued success; she regularly sings oratorios by J.S. Bach, G.F. Handel, G.B. Pergolesi with orchestra, as well as an extensive song repertoire spanning from the Romantic to contemporary period. Her recent competition success was at the 2023 Bogdan Paprocki Competition in Poland, where she was a finalist. In 2024, she won a special prize as a finalist in the 78th Concorso de Genève, as well as the Joint Prize from the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, and Staatsoper Berlin at the national competition. Furthermore, she is currently a scholarship holder of the Cusanuswerk.
Skora deepened her musical and vocal skills with renowned personalities such as Brigitte Fassbaender, Clarry Bartha, Dorothea Röschmann, Takeshi Moriuchi and Claudia Visca.
